Third Of Women Spend On Beauty Before Council Tax
By Alison Steed
A THIRD of women would be happier to put money aside for their beauty treatments than their council tax, with more than half funding their mobile phone before they work out how much they have left to spend on food.
The majority – more than eight in 10 – said this was because they would rather have less to eat than be cut off by their mobile phone provider, according to a survey by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk. A shocking one in 10 said they would spend money on clothes before making sure they had enough to pay the rent or the mortgage.
Just over a quarter of those surveyed said they got worried if a bill was paid late, and more than two in five had received a letter in the last six months chasing them for money.
Farhad Farhadi, financial products expert at MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “It’s interesting to see that so many women seemed to have their priorities all wrong when it comes to their monthly outgoings. Bills should come before luxuries every time, as although it is nice to treat yourself once in a while, service providers will add interest on to a bill if it is paid late. This is especially true in the instance of Council Tax, so it’s shocking to see beauty products are more of a priority to some.
“As soon as your monthly income goes into your bank account, you should work out how much of it needs to be spent on bills and then see how much you have left for luxuries afterwards.”
